The chair was created for the St. Tomas Church in suburban Vällingby, a building designed by Peter Celsing and opened in 1960. Earlier chairs proved to be deficient. For the fiftieth anniversary of the church, Åke was asked to design a new chair. Starting from chairs in the European cathedrals, as well as the “ultimate church chair”, Kaare Klint’s Kirkestolen (1930 & 1936), Åke designed Craft, a chair with a comfortably sloping back and generous width, as well as being stackable. The chair can be ordered from Gärsnäs, with or without arms.
