Noise and poor acoustics are both an environmental and a socio-economic problem. Åke Axelsson has sought to ameliorate the problem with his “Akustik” chair. Stylistically modest with the characteristic straight legs from the Anselm chair. The secret is in the seat which is filled with sound-absorbing felt. The underside is perforated to enhance the acoustics. When many chairs are included in a public space the reverberation time of the room is reduced. “This chair intends to influence its surroundings with something more than just its visual expression and its function as a chair”, Åke explains. The Akustik chair, made by Gärsnäs, is a best-seller.
