Nomad

2019

At its initial launch in 2013, Åker Axelsson termed his Nomad series of furniture “ecological anti-design”. It represented the ultimate with regard to minimal use of materials and sensible furniture for flexible homes. The items were made of certified beech in workshops in Stockholm and in the province of Småland and were despatched to purchasers in flat packs.

The collection was revised in 2019-20. Dimensions were slimmed and construction was improved. A cord which tensioned the entire chair, a “romantic flirt with history”, was replaced by a better solution made of wood. The Nomad chairs are now as thought-through and minimized as they can be: hardwearing, comfortable and just as good as their historic predecessors that are ever-present in Åke’s mind. The structure of the Nomad series is, basically, the same as was used in Egypt and Greece 2 - 4’000 years ago. A timeless and sophisticated item for the home of today and of the future.
